Interesting Tidbits New Year’s Day Edition!

Things worth reading for December 31st through January 1st:

Flipboard’s Mike McCue: Web format has ‘contaminated’ online journalism | Technology | Los Angeles Times – “It’s generally agreed that the Web isn’t a very good place to read. With constantly changing, amorphous formatting and an invariably ad-choked feel, the Web has never been able to replicate the quiet, unencumbered pleasure of reading in print. The trick, McCue says in the following excerpts, is to marry the best of print’s aesthetic and the best of the Web’s speed, reach, and mobility.”

Should Digital Collections Be Worth Something? – MTT – Music Think Tank – Just a reminder: “Of the more than 8 million people that are estimated to buy a Kindle this year, only a small fraction of them understand that the ebooks bought on the device are licensed – not owned – which means they can’t lend or sell their titles. By agreeing to Amazon’s terms of service, which they didn’t read, they’ve accepted these conditions. Soon, single ebook lending may be allowed on the Kindle, but users won’t be allowed to buy used ebooks.”

Why Internet of Things Will Change Mobile Networks: Tech News and Analysis « – Om has some nice projections about the future of “the internet of things.”

The Future of TV, starring Social Media – Nice review of social potential with broadcast and cable television.
