Interesting Tidbits for January 25th

Things worth reading for January 24th through January 25th:

The Networked Librarian | Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project – Lee gave a terrific keynote at the December Agency Summit. If you’re in SF on 3/23, don’t miss his talk: “Lee Rainie, Director of the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project, will discuss technology and libraries at San Francisco Public Library. He will describe the latest research findings of the Project about how Americans use the internet and cell phones. He will describe how libraries can be actors in building and participating in social networks through their use of social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and blogging and through delivering their time-tested — and trusted — services to their patrons.”

Twitter’s Advertising Plan Could Be Paying Off – NYTimes.com – “Twitter has 200 million users, $360 million in venture capital and a valuation of $3.7 billion… And it’s looking as if the company can add something else to its résumé: real revenue. Twitter is on track to earn $150 million in advertising revenue this year, according to estimates from eMarketer, a research firm.”

Havas Ready For New Adventures In Cyberspace – WSJ.com – Nice profile of the Havas CEO and his uncomfortable relationship to digital: “At the end of 2010, Havas hit its target of deriving 20% of its revenue from digital advertising, the CEO says—up from less than 9% in 2006. Mr. Rodés Vilà says he expects this to continue rising, saying clients that operate in industries with registered customers—for example, banks and insurance companies—should clearly be spending more than 50% of their budgets on digital media.”

Can Employers Fire Over Facebook Gaffes? – WSJ.com – “Job seekers and employees have long been warned that risqué revelations on Facebook can jeopardize career prospects. But now companies are facing their own challenges for alleged blunders in dealing with social media.”

San Francisco Gets Inter-Bus Stop Multiplayer Gaming – Very cool… and will be covered at the iMedia Breakthrough Summit in March.

Vending Machine Scans Your Face and Chooses Food For You – Fascinating.

DIGIDAY:DAILY – Android Ad Share Eclipsing Apple – Really terrific Android vs. Google piece by Melinda about the growth battles between Android and iPhone triaging several different data sources.
